Abortion Pill
ABORTION PILL (medical abortion)
The abortion pill also called “medical abortion”, is a combo of medication that safely ends a pregnancy up to 10 weeks without having a surgical procedure.
It involves taking TWO TYPES of meds taken in our office and in the PRIVACY of your own home or in a nearby hotel if you’re traveling from out-of-state.

Abortion Pill (up to 10 weeks)
The first tablet is FDA approved and works by blocking the hormone progesterone, which is needed to maintain an early pregnancy.
The second set of pills will be taken at home. These pills soften and open the cervix, allowing the pregnancy to pass.
We recommend having the medication abortion up to 8 weeks, as most patients find the process to be more comfortable and manageable at this stage.
The most commonly reported side effects are nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea of brief duration. No other side effects or adverse reactions have been reported at the dosage used in this method of pregnancy termination. They will help the uterus to expel the pregnancy.
What to Expect
Day 1
- When you arrive, you will fill out forms
- You will then have lab work and an ultrasound to find out length of pregnancy
- Our experienced doctor will discuss the abortion pill with you and answer any questions you may have.
- You will be given a pill to take in the office
- The additional pills will be given to you to take at home
Day 2
- After taking the medication at home, you will experience cramping and heavy bleeding.
- You may also experience side effects such as dizziness, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, light lactation, or mild fever.
- Our doctor can prescribe medication for pain and nausea.
- Your bleeding will make you feel like you are having a heavy menstrual period. Some bodily tissue and blood clots will pass too.
- When undergoing a medical abortion, it is advisable to use overnight pads (maxi pads) that will be able to absorb all the blood tissue expelled from the body.
- After two to twelve hours, the bleeding will begin to tapper off, but cramping may go on for a day or two.
Following Days
- Bleeding and spotting can take longer (up to two or three weeks)
- At 2 weeks, if you feel you are still pregnant get in touch with our clinic.
- If you do not feel pregnant, run a pregnancy test 4 weeks after your abortion to make sure it is negative at that time.
- In the unlikely case that the abortion doesn’t work and you’re still pregnant, we will perform a first trimester in-clinic abortion procedure at no charge.
Is the abortion pill safe and effective?
The abortion pill is SAFE for terminating pregnancies in their first trimester. The statistics show that it is 98% effective for 8-week-old pregnancies and 93% effective for 10-week-old pregnancies.
However, its effectiveness may be affected by factors like the age of pregnancy, dosage, and administration of the pill, and whether the patient has conceived before.
The success of the abortion depends on how early the pregnancy is.
